Pre-requisites: Mastered material in social anthropology, sociology of family, social psychology and especially general knowledge of sociology of mental illness.

Course objectives: Sensitizing students to psychiatric problems present in contemporary society, dependent on social triggers, and introducing student to social psychiatric issues, through theory and practical problems in sociology of mental illnesses.

Course description: 1. Philosophical-anthropological foundations in analyzing the relationship between psychiatry and sociology 2. Theory on the origin of mental illnesses (sociological, social psychology and other) 3. Attitudes towards psychological illness 4. Social roles of the mentally ill 5. Anti-psychiatry and reforms in psychiatry 6. Normal and pathological in psychiatry 7. Involuntary hospitalization and other forms of social control 8. Collective Irrational 9. Politics and Psychiatry

Learning Outcomes: Knowledge of theoretical and methodological aspects of issues in contemporary psychiatry on the definition of psychological disorders, in psychiatric institutions, the profession of psychiatry and other aspects of practical psychiatric practice.
