Pre-requisites: For participating in the course it is necessary that prospective student has already mastered several obligatory pedagogic courses dealing with problems of education, first of all general theoretical and historical courses

Course objectives: The aim of the course is that students acquire sociological disciplinary view on one of the basic theoretical themes of pedagogic discussions, theme of education

Course description: This course is not aiming at comprehensive historiographical review of development of the sociology of education as a science, but attention is primarily devoted to: (a) analysis of the major theoretical and methodological paradigms through which sociologists reflect on the phenomenon of education within the sociological tradition and contemporary sociological trends (b) examination of several major theoretical themes and problems addressed by the contemporary sociology of education and (c) identification of their theoretical and methodological impact on other sociological sub-disciplines and, more or less related, social sciences.

Learning Outcomes: Course is expected to enable students to creatively use theoretical and research heritage and to apply it to research of problems engaged by sociology of education
