Course objectives: Introducing students into pedagogy as a science and a scientific system, and basic pedagogical concepts; enabling the critical reflection on contemporary conceptions of education; training students for acquiring the particular pedagogical knowledge during the studies.

Course description: Theoretical course: Education as the widest pedagogical concept and the subject of pedagogical science. The role of education in the development of individuals and society. Historical dimension of education. Relation between education/upbringing and education/schooling. Pedagogical concepts (teaching, self-education, learning, etc.) Education, culture, society and work. Constitution of pedagogy as a science. System of pedagogical disciplines. Pedagogy and other sciences. The possibilities and limitations of personality education. Factors of personality development: heredity, social environment, education, person’s activity. The nature and the character of educational goal. Educational goal determinants. Different concepts and theories about educational goal. Intellectual, moral, aesthetic and physical education. General principles, methods and means of education. Determinants of educational system. Relation between different types of education. Practical course: Basic educational concepts. Pedagogy and other sciences. Personality development factors. Determinants of educational goals. Basic characteristics of intellectual, moral, aesthetic and physical education.

Learning Outcomes: Student: is familiar with the basic pedagogical concepts, with the basic assumptions of contemporary conceptions of education; is capable of acquiring pedagogical knowledge during the studies of adult education.
