Course objectives: Understanding and critical review of position and projection of lifelong education and adult education in strategies of social development of society, supporting the social groups and strengthening the individual for participation in social environment.

Course description: Theoretical course: Political and social functions of adult education; Social functions of adult education – from utopian to emancipatory; Positions and basic functions of adult education in modern approaches to social development of social communities, groups and individuals; Particularity and complexity of research of social function of education of adults. National, European and global dimensions of social functions of education of adults; National strategies of social development; Possibilities and positions of adult education in these strategies. Practical course: Different programmes, types, methods and techniques of adult education as a support to social promotion and participation of different social groups; Social aspects of adult education in global movements – education for all, literacy, reduction of poverty, development of civic society, peace and tolerance, gender equality, international dialogue.

Learning Outcomes: Student is able to make the critical insight into the real capabilities and limitations of adult education in strategies of social development and to research the functions of adult education in social actions of promotion, support and protection of different social groups.
